The Miners Standard was built in 1653 and was one of 22 pubs in the old lead mining village. Many of the old photographs showing Mill Close Mine and associated mining activities can be found hung on the walls, although little can now be seen of the ancient industrial activity. The Miners Standard is now only one of two pubs left in the village, but house names like the 'Shoulder of Mutton'on West Bank are a reminder from this important era.
The name "Miners Standard" refers to the Standard Dish used by the old lead miners to measure their ore. The Standard Dish has a volume of 14 Winchester pints and holds about 65lbs of lead ore.
Now The Miners Standard situated between Matlock, Ashbourne and Bakewell
attracts tourists visiting the area and offers a splendid variety of food and beers. The pub
also has a limited amount of camping with hook-up points for motor caravans.
