Can e-mails be sent from my_name@my_domain? Yes Yes Some e-mail providers will allow this. Gmail does allow this.
Other advantages Can be accessed from anywhere by a browser, smartphone, PC, tablet etc.

A backup copy can be accessed provided that the account was set-up to retain a copy of e-mails in the mailbox and all devices are using IMAP. Cheap as there are no disk space usage charges.
